ABOUT US

At Counselling on Sea, we are passionate about offering good quality therapeutic counselling to everyone.

This means offering therapy at an affordable rate and via a range of mediums (online, face to face and telephone). So that we can reach anyone anywhere.

We offer individual therapy for adults 18+

For many people their options are limited when seeking therapeutic help.

They end up:

- On a long waiting list

- Receiving a limited number of sessions

- Only being offered CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

- Paying high fees

Counselling on Sea offers therapy at a set rate of £15 or £35 to everyone.

It’s a great way to:

- Try therapy out for the first time

- Get back into it

- Get seen straight away

- Have as many sessions as you want

- See your counsellor as often as you want to

Once you’ve contacted us, we endeavour to get a counsellor assigned to you within a week.

Since this service is staffed by trainee therapists we are not able to offer counselling to everyone.

There are some exceptions, these would be issues like:

- Any diagnosis of a personality disorder

- Current or recent psychosis

- Severe trauma

In addition, if you are currently suffering from severe distress or are in any danger to yourself (suicide planning) or others, you may not be suitable for counselling and need an intervention alongside a qualified experienced professional’s help.

If you do present with this, we can help point you in the right direction and have many connections to professionals who can help.

Alternatively you can search for a counsellor on The NCPS, The BACP and The Counselling Directory.

Our face to face counselling is located in Southend-on-Sea. Recent research has shown that remote counselling can be equally as effective, so wherever you live, you can benefit from the top quality support you need.

We are particularly proud that we can offer long term therapy as this is often not available.

Our History

Counselling on Sea opened officially in June 2022 in response to local need for mental health aid.

The Director started out by taking on two or three students and helped them to gain their placement hours to gain their qualifications. Now we have over 20 trainees on the books all up to date with the latest techniques, insured and supervised throughout. When Covid-19 hit, many local placement agencies had to end and students were finding it difficult to find placements. Tapping into this wonderful resource of trainee counsellors enables Counselling on Sea to offer such a great service to the public.

This was born from the Director Samantha Ashdown NCPSAcc who is also a qualified counsellor. Her vision to offer mental health to all has always been at the heart of what she does. Samantha started out as a qualified dental nurse specialising in sedation. Her career path has always been in connection with anxiety and mental health.

"Opening this Student Hub in Southend is a dream come true and a way to give back to the community."

Term & Conditions

You will be assessed via the referral form you fill out and possibly receive a phone call/email if further assessment is needed.

You can only be assessed and accepted by filling out one of the self referral forms, not through the contact page.

You have a choice between the ‘Affordable Scheme at £15’ (counsellors undergoing their training) or the ‘Mid Priced Scheme at £35’ (qualified counsellors with over 100 hours experience).

You must pay either before or by the end of your session via transfer/card/cash.

If you cancel on the day or fail to attend the session, the fee will still need to be paid unless your circumstances are deemed to be under the category of ‘emergency’ by your counsellor and the director.
